How to Shape Pretzels

There are not many things that can beat the taste of handmade pretzels. That’s why we at Uncle Henry’s Pretzels specialize in handmade pretzels. But we never want to discourage people from trying to make their own pretzels right at home.

However, the thing people struggle with the most when making handmade pretzels is the shape. That’s why we’ve detailed how to shape pretzels to ensure yours come out as perfect as possible!raw pretzel dough on floured table

Step 1: Roll the dough

Roll the dough into a long rope—at least 18 inches long—on a lightly-floured surface. Dough tends to shrink back on itself, so roll it out partway and then let it rest for a few minutes before rolling it the rest of the way.

Step 2: Grab Both Ends and Twist

With the dough stretched out on the surface, grab each end and draw them together so that they form a circle. Then, twist the ends of the dough together either once or twice, depending on your preference.

You can do this step on the table or try twisting them in the air, but twisting them on the table is easier.

Step 3: Fold It Down

After twisting the ends together, bring the ends towards yourself and fold them down onto the bottom curve. Wet the ends with either water or milk to ensure they stick to the dough.

Step 4: Let Them Rise

Once the pretzels are shaped, you should let them rise for at least twenty minutes. After that, consult your recipe to see how long and at what temperature you should bake your pretzels.
